GIPMSH is a nine-year unified school with international characteristics and practice of holistic education. As a model school for Chinese students to practice global competence. It is one of the few schools in Guangzhou authorized by IB with both the PYP and MYP programmes. This school was formed by combining Guangzhou International Middle school Huangpu and Guangzhou International Primary School Huangpu. Both had gained authoritative recognition in both domestic and foreign education systems.

The Primary Section of Guangzhou Intentional Primary/Middle School Huangpu, former Guangzhou International Primary School ZWIE, was founded on September 1st, 2003. It is an authorized IB PYP School. The school is one of the first "IPC curriculum authorized schools" of international education organizations in South China. It is also a national youth football school and a campus basketball promotional school in the Guangdong province.

The Middle School Section of Guangzhou Intentional Primary/Middle School Huangpu, former Guangzhou International Middle School ZWIE, was founded in 2009.
The school is the only experimental base school of the Guangdong Education Research Institute in the middle school stage of the whole province to research "internationalized curriculum" and "small class teaching," and one of the few IBMYP schools in south China. The school is also the vice-chairman school of China’s bilingual teachers union, a member of the International Middle School Curriculum Union, the cooperative unit of International Camp Association, the English test center school of British Cambridge Middle School, and the test center school of the Canadian Waterloo International Mathematics Competition.
